Cabo Verde Qualify for Second Round of WAFCON ‘26
Following the 2-2 draw between Guinea-Conakry and Cabo Verde on February 21st in Guinea, the two teams met again in the Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde just 5 days later. The game started with a lot of intensity and the referee had to intervene multiple times, particularly on set pieces, as players kept coming together in what would be a physical game.
The Blue Sharks would prove to be the better team as they ran away with game with them sending 4 goals past Guinea-Conakry goalkeeper Djaka Chérif Haïdara. It would be Ivania Moreira who would first break the deadlock in only the 11’, followed by a brace from Ivy Periera in the 22’ and 28’. Marie Camara would get a goal back for Guinea just two minutes later to make it 3-1 to the hosts going into halftime. The second half was lighter on goals but no less exciting than the first. It would culminate with captain Varsénia da Luz who would score in the 87’ to finish off the game and send them into the second round of qualification.
