Founded on December 2, 1923, Sporting Clube da Praia is one of the oldest clubs in Africa. Known as the Lion di Kapital, the Praia club was started as an affiliate of Sporting Clube de Portugal.

Sporting Praia are Cabo Verde’s best represented team in continental competition as they’ve participated in the CAF Champions League 5 times including a run as the national representative in 2007, 2008, and 2009. This being the last time that a team from Cabo Verde participated in the competition.
